We had Oliver's IEP meeting today with the school district. He leaves the Early Intervention program next month when he turns 3 next month and is being transitioned in to the school district for services. His only delay now is speech. His testing revealed that he understands everything we say, which we already knew. He is just significantly delayed in his expressive language and has some pretty big problems with articulation (pronunciation). He was placed in to the school district's part-time speech program which means he will either go to school on Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday in the fall for 2.5 hours each day. He can even ride the bus, not sure if we will let him though. He could start at the end of April when he turns 3 but we have decided to wait till fall to send him. He will stay with his current speech language pathologist whom he loves (I do too) till then. It didn't make much sense to change everything when he would end up getting no services over the summer.
I want to add in that he is talking a ton and has come such a long way! However, he does have a way to go before people are able to understand him and he can feel less frustration with communication.
